Bath has always felt a little bit magical to me.

If you're planning to surprise your partner with a proposal in Bath, choosing the right location is one of the most important parts of the planning. You want somewhere that feels special to you both, but also somewhere where I can quietly capture the moment without giving the surprise away.

I've photographed many special moments in and around Bath, and I've put together some of my favourite proposal locations to help you find the perfect setting for your very own YES!

Whether you're dreaming of a grand romantic backdrop, a quiet garden, beautiful city views or something completely private, Bath has something for every couple.

1. Prior Park & The Palladian Bridge

If you're looking for that classic romantic Bath proposal, Prior Park and its beautiful Palladian Bridge are hard to beat.

The 18th-century bridge sits within the stunning landscape of Prior Park, with magnificent views stretching across the gardens towards Bath. It feels wonderfully timeless and elegant, and it's easy to understand why it's such a popular place to propose.

This is also one of my favourite locations to photograph because there are so many opportunities to capture the story naturally — from the anticipation before you pop the question to the moment your partner realises what's happening.

And then, of course, we can take a little time afterwards to celebrate and capture some beautiful engagement photographs together.

2. The Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent has to be one of Bath's most iconic backdrops.

Those beautiful Georgian buildings make an incredibly elegant setting for a proposal, but you don't necessarily have to make the moment feel like a big staged photoshoot.

In fact, I love taking an “incognito undercover agent or an actor” approach here.

I'll position myself at a discreet distance and capture the proposal as it naturally unfolds. Your partner may have absolutely no idea I'm there, which means we can capture those genuine reactions — the surprise, the laughter, the tears and that wonderful moment when they realise you've just asked them to marry you.

The result is a collection of photographs that feels completely natural and personal to you.

3. The Roman Baths

For couples who love history and want their proposal to feel truly unique, why not ask the question surrounded by almost 2,000 years of history?

The Roman Baths are at the very heart of Bath and provide a wonderfully atmospheric setting for a proposal.

There is something quite special about beginning your own next chapter in a place that has witnessed so many stories throughout history.

If the Roman Baths hold a special meaning for you both, this could be a beautiful way to make your proposal even more personal.

4. Bath Botanical Gardens

If you love greenery, flowers and a quieter atmosphere, the Botanical Gardens are a lovely option.

They're centrally located but have a wonderfully peaceful feel, making them ideal for couples who want something romantic without feeling too formal.

And one of the things I particularly love about proposing here is that we don't have to stop after the YES!

We can wander through the gardens together afterwards and capture relaxed engagement photographs while you're still wrapped up in the excitement of what has just happened.

5. Parade Gardens

Right beside Bath Abbey, Parade Gardens offer another beautiful setting for a romantic proposal.

The gardens have lovely architectural details, including the elegant colonnades, and their central location makes them particularly convenient if you want to combine your proposal with a walk through the city or a celebratory meal afterwards.

It's a lovely choice if you're looking for something that feels quintessentially Bath.

6. Alexandra Park Viewpoint

If incredible views are important to you, Alexandra Park is definitely worth considering.

The viewpoint offers one of the most spectacular panoramas across Bath, making it a beautiful backdrop for an intimate proposal.

Imagine walking together, taking in the view, and then finding that perfect quiet moment to get down on one knee.

I'll be there ready to capture it all — ideally without your partner noticing me!

This location can also be particularly beautiful around golden hour, when the light begins to soften over the city.

7. Bath Abbey & The Historic Streets

Sometimes you don't need a grand plan or a specific landmark.

The streets around Bath Abbey are filled with beautiful architecture, little corners and historic details that create a wonderfully romantic atmosphere.

For couples who love the feeling of simply wandering through a city together, this can be a really lovely way to plan your proposal.

We can create a little story around your walk — capturing the anticipation, the proposal itself and all those small moments afterwards.

Sometimes those unplanned moments end up being the photographs you treasure the most.

8. Pulteney Bridge & The River Avon

Pulteney Bridge is one of Bath's most recognisable landmarks and makes a beautiful backdrop for a city proposal.

With the River Avon flowing beneath the bridge and the wonderful architecture surrounding you, it has that unmistakable Bath feeling.

It's particularly lovely if you want your proposal photographs to immediately remind you of the city where you got engaged.

We can also explore the surrounding riverside afterwards, giving us plenty of opportunities for relaxed photographs together once the nerves have disappeared!

9. The American Museum & Gardens

The American Museum & Gardens is a wonderful option if you're looking for something a little different.

Set within beautiful grounds, it offers a feeling of history, elegance and tranquillity while still being close to Bath.

It's a great choice for couples who want their proposal to feel intimate and a little more secluded.

The gardens also give us lots of opportunities for beautiful photographs after the proposal, so we can capture the two of you enjoying your first few moments as an engaged couple.

10. A Private Boat Proposal on the River Avon

If you want something truly intimate, why not take to the water?

A boat proposal offers a completely different experience — just the two of you drifting along the River Avon while you find the perfect moment to ask the question.

There is something wonderfully romantic about being away from the crowds and having a little world of your own for those few precious moments.

And don't worry about me ruining the surprise. I can help you plan the details so that the proposal feels completely natural while still giving us the opportunity to capture it beautifully.

11. Euridge Manor

If you're dreaming of something luxurious and incredibly romantic, Euridge Manor is a spectacular choice.

This beautiful private estate has all the ingredients for a truly unforgettable proposal — stunning architecture, romantic gardens and an atmosphere that feels wonderfully exclusive.

It's particularly suited to couples who want to turn their proposal into more of an experience, perhaps with champagne, flowers and a beautiful meal or overnight stay afterwards.

If you're travelling to the area specifically for your proposal, this could make an unforgettable setting for such an important moment.

Why Choose Me to Photograph Your Bath Proposal?

A proposal isn't just another photoshoot. I live in Bath within 7 minutes walk from most locations.

It's the moment your relationship changes forever, and I feel incredibly lucky whenever someone trusts me to be part of it.

My approach is natural, relaxed and documentary-style. I want to capture the real you — not stiff poses or forced smiles, but the laughter, the nerves, the happy tears, the hugs and that look on your faces when you realise you've just become engaged.

I'll Help You Plan the Surprise

You don't have to figure everything out on your own.

I'll help you think through the timing, location, where I'll be hiding, how you'll get your partner to the right place and what happens immediately afterwards.

I know how nerve-wracking it can be when you're trying to organise a surprise proposal, so I'm here to make the whole process feel as easy and stress-free as possible.

And yes, I will probably be just as excited as you are when the moment finally happens!

A Personal, Bespoke Experience

I don't believe your proposal should feel like something taken from a template.

Every couple is different, so I love adding little personal touches wherever I can. If you'd like flowers, champagne or another special detail included, I'm always happy to help where possible.

My background in business also means I approach every proposal with plenty of organisation behind the scenes. I'll think about the little details so that you can concentrate on the important part — asking the question.

Natural Photographs That Tell Your Story

My goal isn't simply to give you a photograph of the moment you get down on one knee.

I want to tell the whole story.

The walk towards the location.
The moment you ask.
The look on your partner's face.
The hug afterwards.
The laughter.
The happy tears.
And those first few moments together as an engaged couple.

Those are the memories you'll want to come back to years from now.

Flowers, Champagne & Those Little Extras

If you'd like to make the surprise even more special, I can help arrange little touches such as flowers and champagne.

Sometimes it's the smallest details that make the moment feel completely yours.

Same-Day Preview Images

I know how difficult it can be to keep exciting news to yourself!

That's why I generally send a selection of preview photographs on the same day as your proposal, so you can start sharing the happy news with your family and friends straight away.

Because once you've said YES, you're probably going to want to tell absolutely everyone!

Every proposal is different, so I'm always happy to chat through your plans and create something that works beautifully for you.

Still Thinking About Where to Propose?

If you're still deciding where to pop the question, don't worry. Choosing the location can feel like a huge decision, but it doesn't have to be.

Think about your partner.

What would make them feel most comfortable? What places do you love visiting together? Would they prefer somewhere quiet and private, or would they adore having one of Bath's iconic landmarks behind them?

And if you're completely stuck, just tell me about the two of you.

I'll help you come up with an idea that feels personal rather than simply choosing the prettiest location.

After all, the perfect proposal location isn't necessarily the most famous one.

It's the one that feels like you two.

Kind Words From a Recent Bath Proposal

One of my recent couples chose the Palladian Bridge at Prior Park for their engagement, and their words meant so much to me:

“It was an absolute pleasure working with Bea! She was incredibly patient, attentive and thoughtful in capturing such special moments between my fiancé and me during our engagement.

Her bubbly personality, thoughtful prompts and encouraging attitude throughout the photoshoot were exceptional. She made us feel so comfortable and confident, allowing us to naturally express the emotions we were feeling in such a special moment.

I would highly recommend working with Bea and, most importantly, trusting her vision. She is an incredibly talented photographer, and we were so impressed with how beautifully she captured our moments.

She also edited and delivered our photos so promptly, which was an added bonus!

Thank you so much, Bea, for helping us capture memories that we’ll treasure forever!”
